Last year I became friends with a very special group of ladies and participated together in a 10 on 10 project. This year we wanted to continue to do a project together, but wanted to do something a little different. Our new project is called Kaleidoscope.
Kaleidoscope is derived from the Ancient Greek (kalos), “beautiful, beauty” (eidos), “that which is seen: form, shape” and (skopeo), “to look to, to examine.” Hence “observation of beautiful forms.”
We are a group of friends, moms, visual artists and photographers from around the world who are passionate about capturing images of the real, the messy and the magical-the wonder of the everyday. Like a kaleidoscope, our photographs are playful and experimental, ever-changing and infused with light and colour. Once a month, we assemble a single mosaic comprised of our collective pictorial tiles, one submitted by each of us, that reflect the shared meaning and beauty in our lives.
This month I captured an afternoon strawberry picking. This is one of our favorite Spring Break traditions. This local farm is such a sweet place to visit. I am always in such surprise over how cheap the berries are when you pick them. The girls favorite part is getting to eat as we pick. I love these special family memories.
It was Monday of Spring Break and it was raining, so we decided to head to the bowling alley with some of the cousins and Aunt Katie. What a fun and chaotic time we had together. The bowling alley doesn't have the best lighting and some of these images missed focus, yet, somehow they come together to tell the story so well. One of the things I am trying to embrace more often is imperfection. I want to save the snapshots in addition to the more polished pictures, because this is life right now.
Please head on over to the Cherish this Day blog to see the everyday beauty captured in the lives of some very talented and special ladies.
We are enjoying a break from our schooling this week. Daddy is even home from work all week to enjoy time with us. On Monday we headed out to the strawberry field here in town. It has been a tradition the past 4 years that we always look forward to.
I am so happy to be linking to a beautiful friend's blog. Please follow along and see what amazing images Gail Pomare has to share this month. She is back in her homeland New Zealand and I just know she has something fabulous to share.
it's not usually a good sign when the rain starts coming down on the way to your photo shoot. i arrived at our location and immediately thought we would be rescheduling. BUT it is florida and as my brother n law often reminds me, wait five minutes if you don't like the weather, b/c it is likely to change. we were so thrilled when the rain stopped and we had a little glimpse of sunlight to go on with our shoot. this family had the most precious little girls. their oldest was so cooperative and listened so well to my instructions. she was a delight. and oh, boy, i just loved watching their one year old dive into her cake. she LOVED it. i hope you enjoy your preview ashley....you have a lovely family!
today we spent a glorious spring morning at a local strawberry patch with my sisters and all the kids...it was such fun to watch the kids and their excitement and determination to get LOTS of berries...
as we drove home, i pulled over to capture these next few shots. this is home...the pastures, the cows, the oaks. it's everything i see and relate with HOME. it's all the things i missed so much before moving back.
and once we got home the girls counted and cleaned their berries.
we can't wait to go pick blueberries and peaches later this spring...
it's friday once again which means its time for project 52. this week our theme is green with envy. i admit i don't have a super creative green themed image this week.....nor anything leprechaun related :) i was thinking about how green everything is right now in florida and how beautiful it is. the weather is gorgeous and everything is in full bloom. the orange blossoms are one of my favorites right now. their scent always reminds me i am "home"....they are just lovely!
we decided to take a little spring break from our homeschooling this week...and pretty much every day has looked pretty similar to the images below. as i watched the children all week playing with their cousins and friends, i couldn't help but be a little bit green with envy as they are so carefree at their age. IN REALITY, what i feel is very thankful. so grateful for the life God has blessed us with. for the people around us and the beautiful life we have. i never want to take it for granted...
please continue on with the blog of Clara from Heart Inspired Photography | Adelaide Photographer and see how she captured this week's theme...
it has been a wonderful week having school out for spring break. it really did reconfirm my excitement to home school next year and have this time daily as a family. this week we set out to have some relaxing but fun times together. we spent some time at home in the blow up pool, we went strawberry picking, we went kite flying, we went bowling, and today we headed to the beach. the beach is always such a great place to go to spend some time playing but it is especially fun this year as all of the kids LOVE it. i will be sad to see school back in session next week, but know that summer is right around the corner.
it's week 15 of project 52 with the bloom forum. and this week's theme is - sleep: where do you sleep? your children sleeping... peaceful moments. as you can read in my previous blog posts from this week, it has been spring break week at our house. we have been having fun each day and enjoying this family time together. i have even had the joy of taking a couple of naps this week...what a missed treasure they are!!! this week i also began shooting with my new camera. i made the switch to full frame and to nikon. and i LOVE my new camera for all the reasons i thought i would. one of them is the amazing pictures it can take at a very high ISO in very low light.
these first two pictures were taken at ISO's 5000 and 3200...i have to say i am so impressed with this camera's ability. the lighting was very dim for these. these pictures were taken on day 1 of our spring break and you'll see my sweet pea was worn out. she didn't make it up to bed or even get changed into her jammies before falling asleep. i knew i had to capture this moment.
this next picture is from one afternoon this week. my four year old has given up naps but defiitely needs them once in a while and this week he has needed one more often than usual.
now head on over to Amy Ames, Holly Springs, NC blog and see what peaceful moment she captured....
the kids have asked every day....is today the day we are going bowling? and today was finally the day. and what fun we all had!!! we headed home just in time to find out we were under tornado watches and warnings once again. our area was affected a couple weeks ago terribly; so this naturally put me a bit on edge. you can read more about our local devastation here and here... my prayers go out to all of the families across the country who have been affected by all of the recent tornado activity. it is heartbreaking. here are a few (well, quite a few) pictures from our fun morning at the bowling alley...
today was day 3 of spring break. it was another nice relaxing day. today the kids enjoyed their slip and slide, we headed to the park and we did a little bit of kite flying. it was just another great day together. the kids have been counting down all week for tomorrow's adventure...so make sure you stop by and see what we are up to. today's first picture was of sweet C in her usual "spot" hoping she could get out on the slip and slide...just loved this one!
the next few pictures are at the park and then down by the river....it was a super windy day, perfect for kites!
today we decided somewhat spur of the moment to head out to the strawberry patch. we knew we would go sometime during spring break but we just weren't sure when that would be. we called and they were open with fields ready to pick, so out we went. the kids had a blast and as you will see, one of my sweet three couldn't wait to get home (or out of the patch for that matter) to try some of our pickings....
it is finally spring break at our house and we couldn't be more excited. sleeping in, quality time together, afternoon naps, casual dinners, and late movie nights.....this is spring break in our house! and this little taste of it already has me super ready for summer. i love the slow pace and the laughter and smiles that come with the fun we are having. today was day 1 and we set out to get a new blow up pool (the real pool's don't open here until memorial day weekend) and a slip and slide...check back tomorrow and see what spring break fun we are up to then!
